Chessat
The Great Empire.

Chessat is by far the largest of the human kingdoms. Heck, it’s by far the largest of the kingdoms, period. We don’t know if monsters have cities or not, so we can’t compare to them, but still, wow that’s a big hunk of land they have. Chessat wasn’t always that big. About 6 centuries ago, they began a gigantic wave of expansion under emperor Actrur Mingsk, who some believe was an immortal of some sort, almost godly, his presence seemed to fill the room every time he was there. A great man, with great visions. He succeeded in expanding his kingdom tenfold, conquering and absorbing many smaller kingdoms around him. His advance was stopped when his greed got the better of him. His armies were stopped at the battle of knee breaker cap, when the small folk won the victory that cost Chessat the war. The other part of his armies he sent against the elves and keysackra. Both of whom laughed. The army that attacked the elves spent 4 months wandering the forest, losing maybe 4-5 men a day due to elven arrows, monster raids, bad food habits, insects, snakes, and other things like that. After losing near a thousand men that way and not being remotely close enough to the elven kingdoms, the general came back to his emperor and admitted failure. He was beheaded. Needless to say Keysackra made short work of the pitiful armies sent against it. Legends say that the high council made wagers on witch of their summoned creatures would kill the most people. A creative mage won by summoning not a humongous demon, but an outsider that could move faster than the eye could follow and threw most of the army away to their deaths in a deadly fall. That’s kind’of a Tautology….. well… he threw tham good! But that is only legend of course.

Since then, Chessat has had to deal with it’s incredibly huge borders, that it had problems defending from the neighbouring nations and the monster raids and armies who saw a golden opportunity there. They grudgingly accepted to become part of the human alliance, an alliance of the four major human kingdoms. They’re deal is mostly to trade between them and help each other out in case of monster attack. For Chessat, monster attack means anything that isn’t either a human or a witch-hunter.

Tensions: Keysackra, Athenicia, Kordenia
Alliances: Tenacia, Peveras, Nubania
Ruling system: Imperialism
Ruler: Actrur Mingsk XII

Tenacia
The Free Kingdom

Tenacia has always stood for everything that is free flowing and losse in this world. A nation totally controlled by merchant princes and lords, everyone works for one of them or the other, form lowly peasant to high captain. This isn’t such a bad system really, since all of them truly are in competition with the other, but an amiable competition…. On the outside…. More than one merchant lord has suffered a ‘’grievous tragedy’’ at the hands of ‘’unknown street thugs’’ or ‘’wandering psychopath’’ for it to be a mere coincidence.

For all it’s subtle game of power, Tenacia is a nice place to be, and it gave this world some of it’s greatest things. Harren'daen'kar was born here, as well as Daed’s Faen’din Was and the church of ten. Lotsa great things really. The peasant’s aren’t that hungry, they get paid decent wages. It’s mostly due to another great tenacian invention: Unions. That one hasn’t gotten hold of the other kingdoms thought…. I’m pretty sure the respective leaders of those places like that fact. The first union was the mercenaries union, that helped too.

Anyways, if you want to buy something, good chance is you’re going to be able to get it here, even some rare elven or keysackran goods!

Tensions: None, tensions are bad for trade
Alliances: Chessat, Peveras, Nubania
Ruling system: Trade Lords
Ruler: Varied

Peveras

Great grasslands of barbarian tribes

Peveras is an important part of this world because it is the single largest patch of grasslands in the whole wide world. This gives the gigantic grasslands of Peveras a whole different faunal and floral system. Varied kinds of food and plants as well as sturdy hides and pelts are the main exports of this country, they import a lot of metallic items and weapons in exchange.

The warring clans of Peveras are nonetheless a united assembly, meeting three times a year to discuss the outside world, trade, and they’re decisions considering the human alliance. Peverian light cavalry and berserker warriors are renowned throughout the world as some of the most destructive and top-notch fighting units. They don’t get out of peveras much thought.

Little more is known of Peveras, of their customs or anything else, they are a secretive and possessive people, who look very unkindly to anyone who crosses their borders. Mostly only traders are allowed in, and even then, those traders are only allowed to go to one place, a common trading ground for everyone.

Organisations who have a chapter house … or rather… a chapter hut or a hold of some kind in pevaras are the witch hunters, the pathfinders, the followers of the way, and the believers of Teonat. Pevaras is also renowned for having a very strong warblade tradition.

Tensions: Keysackra
Alliances: Chessat, Tenacia, Nubania
Ruling system: Council of chiefs
Ruler: Varies, the head of the clan chief is Bowen the hardy for the moment, as he is the chief of the biggest tribe for the moment. That may change as internal warfare and power struggles among clans vary.

Nubania

Great Feudal Society of Honor

The nubanians are a queer kind of people, there is no doubt about that. Their entire lives are based on and around what they perceive as honor. They live quiet lives centered around their duty and their honor, worshipping and asking to their ancestors for guidance. The society is led by different lords, under a collective emperor, who is often worshipped as a god, the spiritual and physical leader of their society.

Nubanian weaponcraft is very good, not as good as the elves, but still incredibly good. They also make good use of bizarre kind of weapons, like chains attached to sickles, or bizarre curved swords. Nubania has one of the rare accesses to one of the world’s inner seas, making this country one of the leaders for the exportation of fish and other varied seafoods.

Nubania is a society that has cultivated the art of spiritual and physical development for hundreds of years. The followers of the way originate from nubania in the first place, before evolving and being adapted by other people into what it is today. Nubania has often suffered from a lot of raids by what is believed to be a nearby goblin nation, althought no one has ever been foolhardy enough to go and check it out. As such, nubanians often believe in killing goblins, and mostly any other goblinoid creature, such as orcs or bugbears or hobgoblins on sight. They make exceptions for witch-hunters…. Most of the time….. we miss ragthor the ravager… he never came back from his contract there…

Tensions: Keysackra
Alliances: Chessat, Peveras, Tenacia
Ruling system: Feudal system directed by the emperor-god
Ruler: Pachingo the IV is the current emperor, and has led his county for almost 50 years in peace. He is believed to be a great man and is very loved by his people. Their worship gives him the power he needs to keep his current state, but not immortality (Divine rank 5, not immortal by age, but all other benefits)

Keysackra

The magical kingdom lives on a gigantic island in the middle of the keysack lake. These people are a people of magic, a high percentage of them are either mages, or training to be mages. Or clerics of the five way rune. While not inherently evil, their curiosity and arrogance over being the most powerful weilders of magic in the world (or so they think, some monsters might match them) has made them unethical. Most kingdoms have been at war with them at one time or another, and most of the time their formidable natural defenses ( a whole freaking lot of water) in addition to their summoned creatures and magicks (to quote caelic) have fended off whole armies. Most people think they got lucky.

Little is known of the ineer workings of the place, except that most people live well fed, prosperous, that everything is clean and there is little need for repairs. Common belief is that, while that is all nice and good, it softens those people up, and is therefore a bad thing.

Tensions: Athenicia, the mages are a bit jealous of the elves, so they are not that friendly with them
Alliances: None
Ruling system: Magocratie
Ruler:Theodrim Makaot, High archmage of the high council. He and the rest of the council lead the nation. Makaot is a masterful transmuter, and few dare to challenge him, as some of the things he does to challengers are the stuff of nightmare. Nevertheless, he rules with a soft, yet firm grip, and no one can really complain about his leadership.

Athenicia

The elven cities of athenicia stand in the middle of the high forest. No path leads there, and the pathfinders charge a heavy fee to lead someone there. The elves seem to enjoy it that way. Sometimes elven wanderers who want to see more of the world filter out of there, but that is very rare. The elves are quite content to live their lives in peace, contemplation, meditation and study. Left to their own demises, they would likely continue to do this for millenias.

What few trade there is between athenicia and the rest of the world goes by the way of elven peddlers using pathfinders as guides. Elven craft is considered one of the finest in the world, matched only, maybe, by dragoncraft. The elves, however, while pacifists, are in no way easy prey. Most monsters have learned to steer clear a long way from the borders of Athenicia, lest they meet elven fine steel and have their spirits crushed by the believers of teo’nat.

Tensions: None, the elves don’t really care about the rest of the world
Alliances: None
Ruling system: Anarchy, a collectivity of small villages and cities that live independently from each other, sometimes asking others for help when it is needed, there is no ruling body, witch often unsettles would-be diplomats from other kingdoms.
Ruler: None

Kordenia, The Great peak

At the center of the continent, rises the great peak, the single, highest mountain in the world. In it’s depths and on it’s rises live the small folks . Halflings, gnomes, dwarves all coexist in harmony on the grassy lower slopes, caverns, tunnels, mines and other various features of the great peak. It is said that a long time ago (6 dwarven generations, so for them it’s still fresh) The kingdom of Chessat, at the peak of it’s power, invaded the Halfling gnome and dwarven kingdoms to expend it’s power. Their armies were finally beat back, after suffering staggering losses on all sides, on the slopes of the great peak, where Gnomish and Dwarven war machines, as well as the deadly accuracy of Halfling archers, were finally put to their best use, as they had the upper ground.

Ever since, the three races have lived in harmony, each letting the other rebuild, grieve, and given the others compagnonship. They also all learned from each other, the gnomes sharing their alchemical and engineering skills, the dwarves their love of well done stonework and metalwork, and the Halflings teaching the others how to cook the finest meals one could imagine. And how to grow some fine pipeweed and brew a wickedly strong ale that goes in with a ‘aaaaaaaah’. Truly the dwarves and gnomes were the winners in this deal! (Lunch hour is near…)

While one might think that dissensions run high amongs three races so different, that is not the case. Everyone of them acknowledges their duty to the others, and gives them enough space to not be crowded. Generally, althought that is not always the case, the Halflings live on the grassy lower slopes and valleys, the gnomes inhabit the higher reaches of the mountains, and the dwarves the lower reaches and their mines.

The Halflings, while being a peaceful people, are constant patrollers, sending outriders to patrol the borders of kordenia all the time, and having several well manned outposts along these borders. They will not be caught off guard again, so they swore.

Tensions: Chessat, Tenacia, Peveras, Nubania
Alliances: Keysackra, the gnomes learn some very powerful magic from the mages, some of them are already devising some powerful illusions to protect their kingdom. The rest of the Halflings and dwarves are somewhat interested, but mostly in the magic items they can have from the wizards in exchange for their own well-crafted tools and superior quality food.
Ruling system: Council
Ruler: Duncan McHammer is the head of the dwarven representatives, Jeebo Snargle is the head of the gnomish council and Alton Goodbarrel is chief of the Halflings. Most council sessions serve to know what the others are doing and often end up as drinking sessions amongst friends.

Admit it, it sounds like a nice place!
